How can essential oils help you?

4 Apr 2017 9:34 AM -

Have you ever wondered what the big deal is with essential oils? You may have noticed these days, more and more information is coming out about how essential oils can be used as part of our daily health and wellness tool kit. There is much merit to this information! So, what are they?

What are they?

Essential oils are the pure extracts from plants that are Mothers Nature's defence mechanism for the plant. These are highly concentrated and are up to 70 times more potent than herbs. Plants produce oils to fight off threats such as mould, bacteria, viruses or fungus. The oils, unlike water, are able to penetrate the cell membrane of the threat thus eliminating the threat to the plant. The same goes for our cells and the cells of threats that may effect us in a negative way!

Where do they come from?

PLANTS! They are the essential oil particulate that is extracted from the plant (either the leaf/stem/root/flower/crystallised sap or other parts) by using steam extraction. There are other methods such as picking fresh mint and putting it in a cup of boiling water and hey presto - fresh peppermint tea! This however, while it is a refreshing drink, is no where near as potent as using the pure extracted oil.

How can I use them?

Basically there are 3 ways you can use them: aromatically, topically, or internally.

Aromatically ~ By inhaling directly from your skin (placing a drop on your palms, rubbing them together, and inhaling deeply for 4 breaths). Another way is by diffusing the oils into the air using a diffuser (best practice says to use an ultrasonic diffuser that does not heat the oil in any way as heating or "burning" the oil effects it's beneficial properties in a negative way). Depending on the oil, the purpose for use and the size of your room, you may want to use 3-8 drops in your diffuser.

Topically ~ By diluting the oils in a base carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil, vegetable oil, olive oil (only use cold pressed extra virgin!) or another type of carrier oil (there are many different carrier oils available, though fractionated coconut oil the one of the most stable), and applying to the skin in a massaging motion over various areas of the body for desired effects. NOTE: There are different dilution proportions for different ages of people from babies to adults. Please be aware of diluting appropriately so as note to harm the skin or apply the oils too strongly.

Internally ~ By ingesting the oils in either a glass of water, via tea or your favourite smoothy, or taking a drop in a vegecap as part of your daily supplement routine. There is much controversy around ingesting essential oils. The only brand of essentials oils I would ingest is doTERRA as they pump millions of dollars every year into ensuring they produce the absolute highest quality oils on the planet that are certified therapeutic grade essential oils. I would not recommend you go to the supermarket and starting ingesting any of the oils you can find on the shelf, as majority of these oils are synthetic and not good for your insides! Or your outsides for that matter, hence why I now only use DoTERRA!.

There are soooooo many ways you can use essential oils to benefit you and your families daily lives. Here are just a few:

1. Replace chemical based cleaning products in your home/office/car.

2. Use them to enhance your skin care products to leave your skin feeling revived and rejuvenated by Mother Nature's hand.

3. Clear stale air in your home when someone brings in unwanted colds to your sacred environment.

4. Freshen up a recipe by adding a few drops to salad dressing or bliss balls.

5. Use to sooth aches & pains such as headaches, bruises, sore muscles and joints.

6. Use a few drops in a bath to relax at the end of a big day.

7. Use to change the mood of our kids or teens when it's time to motivate the crew to do things like homework!

8. Use to clean your hands while out and about without a sink in sight.

9. Use as an antiseptic to ward of infections in mild cuts and grazes.

10. Use to aid digestion and help your stomach organs operate optimally.

How can I get them?

You cannot buy DoTERRA essential oils off the shelf at your local supermarket. But you are in luck! The absolute BEST WAY TO GET THE OILS IS HAVING YOUR OWN ACCOUNT!!! And how do you get that? You ask me!! Contact me if you would like to get your own wholesale account (that's right, wholesale account means wholesale prices!!) and I can help guide you through setting up your account so you get that absolute BEST DEALS INCLUDING FREE OILS!.

Now, I know I have used a lot of capital letters and exclamation marks in this last paragraph, but that is because I am so excited about now having these oils in my life and how I can use them that I want you to take notice and to have them in your life toooooo!....! Alternatively, you can head to my DoTERRA website and sign yourself up - it's easy, just follow the steps below. Or call me on 0413479483 or Facebook message me (even if you don't live near me - there is always live chats available!) and we can arrange a wellness consult to make sure you get the best oils for your home and family.

Ordering doTERRA oils is like becoming a Costco member… you can get the oils at wholesale prices!

  • You’ll get 25% off retail prices

  • You’ll get free oils (they are pretty generous with their bonus gifts!)

  • You DON’T need to order every month… (until you become like the rest of us and become thoroughly addicted! hahaha!)

  • Close to 70% of people do re-order because they love the products so much!

How much does it cost to become a wholesale customer?

It costs a one-off fee of $35 OR you can join with a kit (they start at $174) which waives the joining fee AND gives you massive savings on oils as well! This also takes the guesswork out of how to get started as you can choose a great all around kit to suit your budget and needs.

You’ll not only have access to membership prices all year long, but a support system and community of oil enthusiasts to help guide you on your journey using essential oils!

How to sign up for your wholesale account:

1. Open a new window in your browser and copy and paste this link and hit enter (this keeps this window open so you can keep follow instructions):

https://www.mydoterra.com/Application/index.cfm?EnrollerID=4037274&Theme=DefaultTheme&ReturnURL=www.mydoterra.com/gingerkiyogaandwellness&LNG=en_aus&iact=1

This page will come up.

2. Select the country you want to ship from (this will set up your account to automatically ship from that country so if you are in Aus, select Australia).

3. Select what currency and which warehouse you want to ship from. NOTE: if you select Australia but wanted to order something from the USA (they have some different products to us) then you can still place a USA order down the track!

4. Fill out your details and ensure that the the Enroller ID filed contains my name Kylie Bertuch Haynes and number 4037274 (this is important as without this, I can't tell if you have signed up and can't give you guidance and coaching on how to get the absolute best value out of your account - such as how to get free oils!!).

5. From there, select the product kit you want to sign up with (you can find out more here). They start at $174 - I always recommend the HOME ESSENTIALS KIT ($330 AUD) or larger as the value of money is extremely high and you end up with one of the most practical kits for use straight away! You get a diffuser, 10 of the most useful and popular oils, 9 of which are in 15ml bottles (that's thousands of drops of oil - remember, these are very potent and you only need a few drops per use). There literally 100's of ways you can use this kit in your life!!

You can alternatively just pay the $35 membership fee (and order your desired products separately) or you can go to the point of building a business with doTERRA and then your best option is a larger kit such as the Diamond Kit (this may seem like a big investment upfront but you get soooooo many other benefits that give you a much bigger head start and equates to quite a small investment when it comes to starting a business).

If you want more information about starting a doTERRA business, contact me!! You can also head to my fearless leader's page here at Team Unicorn Wiki for tones of information at your finger tips! There is also our fantastic Facebook group: Team Unicorn Oils that is full of oily info, uses, ask questions and get support if you need it! What an abundant community to be a part of!

Remember you can always ask if you're unsure or need more information!! Don't forget to LIKE our Facebook page Ginger Ki Yoga & Wellness  and JOIN our Facebook group Ginger Ki Yoga & Wellness :: doTERRA Essential Oils for regular articles, info, uses, and much more!

Chakras - What are they and how do they affect us?

1 Mar 2017 2:13 PM -

Pronounced "Cha-Kra":

Have you ever heard the word "Chakra" and wondered what the heck they are and what do they have to do with you? Have you heard the word and thought "Gee, that's nice but chakras are not really my thing". Actually it is the mystery behind the chakras that I felt made them "inaccessible" or "not my thing" to me when I first heard the word. I didn't know what they where or really how I could understand them so instantly thought "they weren't for me". It wasn't until I read Caroline Myss's "Anatomy of the Spirit" as part of my level one teacher training & through the practice of yoga that the mystery started to dissolve and they became accessible for me to understand.

Us humans are remarkable creatures and are made up of far more than what meets they eye, such as our physical bodies. In a nut shell, chakras are spinning "wheels of light" (as the Sanskrit word translated suggests). Essentially, there are 7 main chakras in the body which interact with our endocrine and lymphatic systems to feed in good energy to nourish and support us, and discard of unwanted energy that no longer serves us. When the chakras become blocked, this can affect our physical, mental and emotional state and can even bring about "disease" in the body.

Below is a brief outline of the Chakras:

1. ROOT (Muladhara) - located at the base of the spine

2. SACRAL (Svadhisthana) - located at the pelvic area, hips, genital region

Element: Water
Relates to: Creativity, relationships, money, sex, ethics, honour one another.
Yoga poses: parivrtta trikonasana (twisted triangle pose), utthita parsvakonasana (extended side angle pose), natarajasana (dancer pose).

3. SOLAR PLEXUS (Manipura) - located at the core, 3 fingers below your belly, at your centre

Colour: Yellow
Seed sound: Ram
Element: Fire
Relates to: Self esteem, personal power centre, responsibility of making decisions, honour ones self.
Yoga poses: gomukasana (cow face pose), ardha matsyendrasana (seated twist), ustrasana (camel pose).

4. HEART (Anahata) - located at your heart

Colour: Green
Seed sound: Yam
Element: Air

Yoga poses: bhujangasana (cobra pose), urdhva mukha svanasana (upward facing dog),  janusirsasana (head-to-knee forward bend), matsyasana (fish pose).

5. THROAT (Vishuddha) - located at the throat

Colour: Blue
Seed sound: Ham
Element: Ether
Relates to: Self expression, power of will, communication, ability to speak one's truth, using personal power to create.
Yoga poses: dhanurasana (bow pose), simhasana (lion pose), paschimottanasana (sitting forward bend).

6. THIRD EYE (Ajna) - Located at the third eye, between the eye brows

Colour: Purple/Indigo
Seed sound: Om
Element: Light
Relates to: Power of mind, open mindedness, seek only truth, emotional intelligence, symbolic sight, intuition.
Yoga poses: halasana (plough pose), adho mukha svanasana (downward facing dog),  padmasana (lotus pose) with mudra (interlaced hands behind back) and forehead (third eye) to floor.

7. CROWN (Sahasrara) - located at the crown of your head

She is here!

1 Dec 2016 5:25 PM -
Hello there! It has been a while since I wrote a newsletter. We have had a very exciting spring indeed. I hope you have had a wonderful season of yoga, breath, connection and fulfillment. Spring is such a rich time of new beginnings, cleansing out the old energy and inviting in the new. Allowing the new cycle to emerge and unfold. This is certainly the case for us. My husband and I welcomed the arrival of our gorgeous little girl Mia Grace, born October 24th.

Those of you following on social media will have noticed Mia is the the focus of our daily lives right now. I could not have asked for a better birth, everything went very well. For those of you who would like to read Mia's birth story, you can find it here on Indigo Gentle Beginnings Facebook page: http://bit.ly/2gaDfWy. We are so grateful to Emma Mathews for our Hypnobirthing guidance and support during and leading up to Mia's birth. I highly recommend this to any couple who are pregnant and want to support themselves and their baby with a positive birth journey.

On the yoga front, I am hoping to return to regular teaching early next year. However I will start with my annual Vinyasa in the Vines events at Ringer Reef winery on Jan 8th. Tickets are available here. My regular classes will hopefully recommence shortly after. Keep your eyes and ears pealed for information.

I would like send a BIG thank you Gianna who has been looking after the yogi's in Harrietville for the past 4 months while I have been away. A new teacher to the valley will take over in the next few weeks. Emily Rose has moved from Melbourne to Wandiligong and will fill in while Gianna takes a holiday away with her family. Also starting her own yoga classes in Wandi, Emily comes with a wealth of experience and I personally am very excited to welcome her to the Alpine Valley community.

Summer is a very full time of year in the valley with events happening every other weekend. Christmas and New Year celebrations often mean our regular routines and practices fall by the way side and wait to to be picked up when the "the dust settles" in the new year. Although this is a busy time, this is a great time to celebrate the year that has been and let go of anything that has not served you to the fullest. The new year brings an opportunity to set new goals and intentions and manifest the next chapter of our lives, whatever that might be for you. A very powerful practice is to take some time to sit down quietly and review the year that was. Look at what worked and what didn't. Celebrate the successes and learn from the challenges. Writing it down gives us the opportunity to "get it out" of our heads and our bodies, creating space for new goals, intentions and opportunities to plant their seeds. The next step is to water them and watch them grow. Be sure to bring these new intentions into your practice on your mat and let them soak into your cells as you breath and move.

A tool I find incredibly useful is a "workbook" by Leoni Dawson. Check out the information here. These workbooks prompt me in so many wonderful ways to help get my goals on paper and keep track of them. They are full of wonderfully positive prompts and practices that help enrich and nourish your journey into the new year. They make it fun and enjoyable to dream big and provide tools for you to make those big dreams come true!

So for now, I wish you a love filled Christmas and New Year! May summer be a time of joy, filled with time for relaxing, playing, enjoying, manifesting, creating, being in the moment, and inviting in an absolutely sensational 2017.

Much love, light & laughter,
Kylie. x

The time has come....

6 Jul 2016 9:49 PM - Classes will finish up for 2016: July 20th
Hi there.

The time has come to for me to practice some deeper self care, acceptance and release. However now in my 24th week of pregnancy, I am processing the changes to my body that I did not anticipate. Due to an ongoing knee and back issue (now 6 weeks, that has been caused/exacerbated by pregnancy hormones, hence not going away in a hurry!),  increasing fatigue,  and my increased desire to want to take more care of myself during this precious time which only I can honour, I have decided to finish up by the 20th of July.

For those of you with active multi class passes valid as of July 20th, I will roll on your remaining classes and reactivate them on my return to teaching. I cannot say exactly when I will return to teaching, though I am hoping to start again early next year.

I am sorry I cannot continue until the end of September as planned but I must be a recipient of my own advice and nurture myself during this time. I (and my baby) am so very grateful for all of your attendance, attention, acceptance & understanding,  well wishes and special gifts and I look forward to returning to teaching yoga in the new year. Thank you all for being present in my classes and for yourselves.

Until then, please join me for the last few weeks at either Myrtleford,  Harrietville or Bright locations (see website or below for times and location details) and keep your practice alive over these colder more physically challenging months.

Take care and nourish yourself along the way.

Love and light,

Kylie x

Prenatal Yoga & Restorative Yoga Teacher Training

17 Jun 2016 6:16 PM -
I have just returned from 3 days of Pre-Natal yoga teacher training in Melbourne with Bliss Baby Yoga where I attended 21 weeks pregnant myself. Yes, we are having a baby in Oct and my husband Gary and I are delighted and honored to be welcoming this beautiful new being to the world. It was wonderful to experience this training pregnant and to gain a much greater understanding of what is a safe yoga experience for women throughout the different trimesters. Yoga is such a great supportive practice during pregnancy as you go through so many changes, physically, mentally and emotionally! Look out for my prenatal classes starting early next year!

I also enjoyed a full day of restorative yoga training and this is one delicious practice I am so very much looking forward to adding to my schedule next year! With loads of props to make your feel completely supported, Restorative yoga is about doing just that,  being supported so you can restore! It's not about the stretching, it's about the opening and the journey inward to refuel your energy banks in the most nourishing way.

Finally, I would like to thank all who join me in class. I have been receiving wonderful feedback from students on how yoga has made such a positive impact on their lives. It truly is a life changing practice and I am so grateful for the opportunity to share my knowledge and guide people on their journey.

I wish you a warm yet adventurous winter, whether you are a snow goer, or a couch curler, enjoy every moment! I hope to see you on the mat soon. Regular classes will run until Septembers end (that's the plan at this stage anyway!). Find out more here.

Much love, light & laughter,
Kylie. x

Level 2 Teacher Training and beyond

8 Sep 2014 9:33 AM -
In 3 weeks, I will embark on a journey of 300 hrs of teacher training set in the mountains of Bali. This will involve lots of yoga obviously, but also rich historical studies, anatomy training, philosophy, and teaching techniques to enrich my skills as a yoga teacher and to expand my knowledge and experience of this life changing practice.

During this period Sept 26th to Nov 2nd, classes will unfortunately be on hold. However, there is availability with Molly at The Nest. Students wishing to keep up their practice during this time can enquire with Molly on 0415 239 632.

I am extremely excited about the upcoming training of which I will participate with 15 other trainees being trained by Julia McCabe and Kristin Campbell. Both Julia & Kristin have been teaching yoga for over 15 years and were two of the original teachers I practiced with when I first discovered yoga while living Whistler (Julia & Kristin's home town) in 2005.

I feel blessed to be able to teach a practice that has certainly changed my life and I look forward to bringing back a tool box full of new tools and methods to help enrich my students practice. The future is bright and it's going to be a wonderful spring/summer in the Alpine Valley. I look forward to seeing you all again, on our mats together when I return.

Namaste. Kylie x
